There are three basic materials used with sunglass frames: Metal, Nylon and Plastic.

Zylonite or zyl is the most common material used and can be colored or laminated to meet your style. They bend a little and aren’t likely to break unless under stress.
Because they don’t break, they are perfect for children’s sunglasses. Manufacturers like them for their cost effectiveness.
Nylon Sunglass Frames
If you play sports and sunglasses are needed, you likely use ones with nylon frames. Nylon sunglass frames are lightweight and very flexible. It’s the flexibility that makes them perfect for sports. Plus, they’re tough to break.

Jackie O
Large, oversized glasses almost always worn by women were a style set by Jackie Onassis and picked up recently by many young Hollywood starlets or wannabe starlets.
Aviators
Teardrop-shaped with thin metal frames, these types of sunglasseswere once the style of pilots in the military. They became fashionable in the 70’s and have dropped in and out of fashion since then.
Wayfarers
Thought to be the biggest selling pair of sunglasses in history, these types of sunglasses were originally made famous by James Dean. And it was another movie star that pushed the popularity forward when Tom Cruise wore them in “Risky Business”
Teashades
Round, wireless with a darkened lens, these types of sunglasses were made famous by John Lennon and Janis Joplin and became popular in the 1960’s. They have fallen out of favor.
